Professional Project Leader

My Role:

The only design role in the team. Independently design the user flow, game scenes, characters, and scripts.

PROJECT TYPE

Teamwork, Game Design, Machine Learning

TOOL

pygame, Adobe illustrator

DURATION

Feb 18~19, 24 hours

Event Overview:

On February 18, 2023, I participate in NYU Hackathon as a Hacker.

I formed a team with three other students who were studying psychology, economics, and liberal art, respectively. As the only student with a background in art and design, I am solely responsible for the visuals of the final output and optimizing the user experience.

Eventually, we made a game prototype by using Python and Pygame library, with Decision Tree and Natural Language Process. We eventually won the third prize of the whole hackathon, in which about 15/78 groups can win a prize.

Future Development:

  1. Add more decision-making plots and situations for the player.

  2. After the player saw their scores, show them workers’ perspectives to let them better realize the impact of their behavior and gender discrimination idea on others.

  3. After the players saw their scores connect to ChatGPT to interpret the score for the players better.

  4. Add a time record function in the game, to better measure whether the player has gender discrimination or not. If the player hesitates for a long time during making decisions, then it is highly likely that he/she is trying to hide his/her true thoughts.

  5. Replace the current NLP model with a more accurate model.

My Takeaways:

  1. As a designer, I couldn't help much with the core algorithms and programming. This bummed me out at first, but as the project progressed, I realized the importance of my position.

  2. This Hackathon gave me my first exposure to data science and python programming. I realized that these tools can help me realize more ideas. I would like to learn more about them in the future.
